Artemisia princeps, known as Japanese mugwort or kui hao is traditionally used in eastern medicine ,native to China, Japan, and Korea. It is a perennial, very vigorous plant that grows to 1.2 meters and is known as yomogi (ヨモギ) in Japanese. It bears small, buff colored flowers from July to November which are hermaphroditic, and pollinated by wind. The leaves are feather shaped, scalloped and light green, with white dense fuzz on the underside.
Cultivation
:
Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in spring/summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. The leaves and stems are best when harvested young. Spreads quickly by stolons so contain the growing area to prevent invasiveness.
